37th PBA Philippine Cup: Rain Or Shine Escaped Powerade Tigers

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Rain Or Shine showed composure down the stretch by playing excellent defense, escaping Powerade Tigers 96-93, notching their second win and a share at the first spot (with Petron) at the PBA Philippine Cup.

For the 2nd time in as many games, the ElastoPainters was in another closely fought games, but they have shown composure on both games; one against Brgy. Ginebra Kings and doing the same thing tonight versus Powerade.

Rookie Paul Lee once again showed another explosive game despite having 3 early fouls in the first half, scoring 19 points, grabbing 5 rebounds and dishing off 3 assists, but it was the defensive efforts of Jeff Chan that ensured the Painters the win, preventing the Tigers from sending the game into overtime.

Gary David got the loose ball after the intentional miss of his teammate Celino Cruz, but his attempt from the right corner to tie the game was spoiled by Jeff Chan. He managed to recover the ball, but he's shot didn't even hit the rim. Chan also finished the game with 19 points.

“I consider this as a good sign,” said Painters’ coach Yeng Guiao. “We’re winning close
games. Before our tendency was to collapse but now we proved that we can close out close games.”
“Paul Lee made one or two misjudgements,” said Guiao. “He’s still a rookie, but as I said
he’s special. He’s getting together well with our players and maganda naman ang samahan. The
chemistry is getting better.”

Doug Kramer led Powerade Tigers with 16 points while Gary David only managed to score 14 points, after scoring 31 points in their opening games vs. Shopinas.
